About Quotes

A quote is an agreement between you and your customer to perform the specified work or to create a contract at the specified price. On IFS Field Service Management (FSM), a quote consists of a header with customer and processing information, and a collection of lines. Each quote line corresponds to a record that can be priced. Lines can include part needs, part usage, non‐ part usage, and contracts. When a quote is accepted, each quote line is converted to the appropriate information. For example, non‐part usage and part usage are added to a request and contract lines are added to contract detail. Whenever possible, information is added to the appropriate existing request or contract.

An important aspect of quotes is the price override option. When you select this option, the price specified on the quote is used instead of standard pricing.

Quote templates enable you to more easily create similar quotes. If you are quoting requests or contracts, you can also specify the appropriate templates to use when you accept the quote and create the request or contract.

You can choose to create versions. Each version is created manually. You can choose any version of a quote to be accepted.

Quotes can be created two ways:

  • You can create a new quote and add detail to it. When the quote is accepted, new requests or contracts are created.
  • You can start with an existing request or contract and then quote details. When the quote is accepted, the request or contract is updated with the new details.

The method you use for quotes depends entirely on your business. There is no advantage to either method.
